This episode covers the 2016 Innovation for Jobs Summit at SRI International in Menlo Park, California. The theme of the I4J Summit was "disrupting unemployment." While computers and robots have brought us huge benefits, they also threaten the livelihoods of millions of workers, who may soon be replaced in their jobs by smart machines. The purpose of the Summit was to address this problem, and explore ways to generate new types of work that can't easily be done by machines. There are three studio guests. David Nordfors is co-founder and CEO of the Summit, Robin Farmanfarmaian is President of the Summit, a medical futurist, and author of the new book, "The Patient as CEO," and Allen Blue is co-founder of LinkedIn, the world's largest professional networking service. Videos taken at the Summit itself include Vint Cerf, co-founder of the Summit, Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist at Google, and often called the "Father of the Internet" for his work in developing the protocols that enable computers to communicate with each other. Martin Wasserman hosts.
